where we extract since Roman times (and even today), the prized white Carrara marble with which they were made the most famous artworks and sculptures from the empire, among them the David of Michelangelo.

We will start seeing a nice country Colonnata , country is an ancient village perched on a spur of the Apuan Alps; The village is of Roman origin and the name comes from the fact of being born as a colony inhabited by those working at the quarries; the town’s streets are very narrow, steep, passing under arches characteristic and reach the highest point in the place where there is the church that dates from the twelfth century and where there is a monument to the quarryman.

here you can taste , the “lardo di Colonnata” is one of the most famous Italian salami, with IGP ,made with lard, that is, the fat back of the pig, processing and conserving pig fat, seasoned in marble vessels with secret spices for at least 6 months

then we visit The CAVA MUSEUM Fantiscritti, in the heart of the marble quarries of Carrara is located in a fabulous unique view, in white marble, you can see sculptures and antique styling tools work, the miners’ hut, also (depending on availability) paying the input of about 10 Euros, you can visit the interior of the mountain (the quarry) will take you in with buses allowed

Arrived in the quarry continue on foot along a path accessible to everyone, children, the elderly and disabled (internal temperature 18 °).

All on one floor, you walk on a marble floor that is the envy of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world. It shows the cutting technique and equipment used for the excavation!

 

We travel to lucca (1:05 min from Colonnata.)

Have lunch in Lucca ; Lucca has a tradition of good food, and for lunch we will show you a good place typical where you can tasting ( if you want ).

Lucca, one of the most beautiful and authentic Tuscan towns. It is considered one of the most peaceful places in the Tuscan region surrounded by 16th century antique walls , Lucca’s center and the city wall perfectly preserved ,where the image of the past is very visible and enjoyable nowadays ,and unique wall where you can walk (even renting a bicycle for a ride on the walls ) in fact the walls are 12 meters high but the most amazing thing is the width impressive , with length of 4 km turn around the city, creating a beautiful promenade becoming a beautiful tree-lined avenue that allows you to see the roofs of houses and Lucca from the top.

with its squares, the Cathedral, many churches ,The Church of St. Michael, in both Romanico Pisano style and the Church of San Frediano , Market Square is characteristic of this little town which was constructed in the middle of an ancient Roman amphitheatre.

It was a town of merchants , in fact, even today , inside the picturesque streets many stores , different kind , workshops , you will find the famous sweet typical Lucca “Buccellato”.
